I have just signed up to the Crafting Table Academy, a six month course in coding, electronics and AI.

A continuation of the electronics kits I’ve been doing (and have more to do when I get around to them!) each month had several videos and resources to study and hopefully understand as well as a delivery of useful things to build and create.

Month 1 is, for me, the least interesting as I think I’ve covered most of it previously, but revision is always useful!

This month they delivered a toolbox packed with electronic supplies, including several full boards, basically enough to do all of the courses they provide from the 30 days lost in space through to the nebula raiders box, and all the others in between. As I already have them all I wasn’t too bothered by the parts, but having more components is always useful for other projects.

The coursework this month mainly covers the stuff from the 30days course, which I have completed once and am currently working through it again anyway.

Over the coming months I’ll be delving into to prototyping circuit boards, home automation, 3d printing and making an AI cube, and learning some hacking skills!

I don’t think I’ll be making videos about the course, so t doesn’t really lend itself to that sort of cover, but I do plan on continuing posts about it, so make sure you check back for updates!

And the course is still available at the moment, although there are limited spaces available! See if you can still join me at CraftingTable.com

  1. I’m thinking about joining the crafting academy, but very disappointed they won’t let people who own the previous adventure kits skip the first month. They have the sales records they could easily lookup that we already own all the parts, unless they are evenly splitting the total cost across all 6 months. such that they need to charge $500 (CAD) for $200 (CAD) in repackaged old stock (adventure kit 2) in month 1 to subsidize a higher cost future month… what’s your opinion of the value of the parts you recieved every month? Is it worth the cost you paid?

    1. I’m sure the costs are designed to balance across the 6 months, there are some noticeable differences in “worth” between some of them.
As to if it’s worth doing the course? That’s a harder question to answer. As I dinitnin the first class, some things were not quite right, and indeed the final month is still not quite finished as they are waiting for some components to be delivered before sending out the final pack.
I have very much enjoyed it, and I am sure that the experience will only improve as the team get more experienced in doing this sort of thing.
If you want to learn more about ai, coding, and electronics it’s a great way to get yourself setup with everything you need to make a good start. I paid upfront for the 6months and got a slight discount because of that. I was concerned like you that I already had some things, like the month 1 components and a 3d printer, but more components are always useful, and the printer is a vast improvement to the old one I have had for years.
